Professor Adrian Wilson is a specialist knee surgeon who qualified with a BSc in Biochemistry from Manchester University in 1989 and then went on to study medicine at St Bartholomew’s medical school, graduating in 1994. He did his fellowship in Sports Medicine at the Brisbane Orthopaedic Centre with Peter Myers in 2004.
Professor Adrian Wilson went on to become a leading light in knee ligament and osteotomy surgery.
Adrian was one of the key surgeons to develop and popularise the all inside Acl technique which is now one of the most popular techniques for ACL & PCL Knee ligament surgery. As well as his work o on the all inside procedure, Adrian helped to develop the instruments and surgical techniques for a number of other sports medicine procedures in knee ligament surgery. Adrian Wilson holds several patents on procedures and techniques he has pioneered including the “Graft compression tubes” and the use of the “internal brace” for ligament reconstruction.
He has also pioneered and helped to develop several other surgical techniques such as “the minimally invasive Posterolateral corner technique”. . Professor Wilson has also helped to pioneer the new “Anterolateral Ligament Procedure” and is a member of the anterolateral ligament expert group.
Professor Adrian Wilson has a particular interest in knee osteotomy surgery and is considered one of the leading world experts in this surgery and the management of the young arthritic knee. He is a co-founder of the “UK Knee Osteotomy Registry (UKKOR)” the first dedicated national database for osteotomy surgery. He has developed several instruments for osteotomy surgery and pioneered a minimally invasive technique for High Tibial Osteotomy Surgery with his friend and colleagues who make up “The London Osteotomy Centre”. He became the a key opinion leader for Newclip who are now leading the way in knee osteotomy surgery. Adrian has developed several fixation devices and techniques with Newclip for knee osteotomy surgery. As one of KOLs he founded the Newclip Scientific advisory board which guides Newclip and leads the way for innovation in the field of knee Osteotomy surgery.
Professor Adrian Wilson patented the idea of Trans-Osseus arthroscopy with Trice.
He co-founded the Basingstoke Osteotomy Masterclass in 2007 and then brought this course to London in 2018 when he relocated his practice. Professor Wilson handed on the role of vice chairman of the ESSKA osteotomy committee in 2017. Together with Raghbir Khakha he has a recognised centre of excellent for the ESSKA Osteotomy travelling fellowship. More recently he has set brought the world’s leading osteotomy surgeons to London in the form of a dedicated centre namely “The London Osteotomy Centre”.
Professor Adrian Wilson is also a member of the ESSKA Osteotomy Committee and the ESSKA Arthroscopy Committee.
Professor Adrian Wilson set up a successful fellowship training programme for ligament and osteotomy surgery in 2012.
He has a chair at the Manchester Metropolitan University where he is a visiting Professor to the department of Sport & Exercise.
He frequently has international and UK visitors to observe both osteotomy and ligament surgery.
In 2018 Professor Adrian Wilson co-founded the Regenerative clinic. This is the largest clinic of its kind in Europe treating patients with orthobiologic injections. This delivers alternative treatments for patients with joint issues such as knee arthritis. Since its inception the clinic has delivered over 3000 microfragmented fat injections.
Adrian has also co-founded the “Orthopaedic Specialist Group” which now has over 20 leading surgeons and physicians with a focus on musculoskeletal issues. He heads up the lower limb unit and has brought international leading surgeons into the group to practice in the UK and Cayman Islands.
Adrian has helped to set up a complex day-case surgical procedures at the Fitzrovia hospital. With the skills of his surgical and anaesthetic colleagues they are now delivering day case total knee and hip replacements as well as complex ligament procedures.
Adrian also co-founded the Living Room Health project in March of 2022. The concept of this entity is to deliver high end medical services to the United Kingdom by making this accessible and affordable and on the high street.
